Every Kid Needs a Tree House

Every Kid Needs a Tree House

Relaxing in the shade.Okay, maybe every kid does not *need* a tree house, but they sure would like one! My husband built my son his tree house when he was around three years old and he has loved it ever since. My daughter also laid claim to the tree house a soon as she could climb up the ladder. It is definitely a child-magnet and the minute visiting children see the tree house, they are immediately drawn to it.

Since we live in the desert, we do not have any big or tall trees to place a tree house in. My husband’s solution was to lop off the top of a paloverde tree and build the house on the stump. Then, when the tree started to grow back, it pretty much grew around the tree house. I think hubby is a genius.

Super fast slide. The tree house originally had one door and one window, but that changed last year when hubby came across a slide. He decided to cut a hole in the back of the tree house and attach the slide.  The kids loved it.

What is so great about a tree house anyway?

  • It is a place a child can call their own.
  • It can be used as a pirate ship.
  • It is a great place to visit with friends.
  • Makes a perfect meeting spot for secret clubs.
  • Can be used as a rocket ship.
  • It is a nice place to sit and be alone.
  • It is just plain old fun!

Back of the tree house.

My son has made this tree house his own.  He hung a wind chime by the main door, has a small broom and dust pan to keep it clean, and uses the shelves inside to display various items. This tree house is a true joy to both of my children.

Did you have a tree house as a child? Do your children have one? If so, how do they use it? Feel free to leave a comment.  Share and let’s talk about it.

I always wanted one, but my dad didn't have the skills needed to build it. I hope I'll be able to find someone to help me build one for Isaiah when he's a little bigger!

  3. I wish we had a tree house but there's no trees in our backyard@ I love that though and really love how the tree is growing back around it!

  4. We built tree houses in the bushland behind our place. It was pretty exciting.

My mum now nearly 70 wants me to build her a tree house to live in when we move back to the country!

Your post is a great reminder how valuable a 'kid's hide-out' place is.

I'll put my thinking cap on regarding how I can create something for my kids.
